Aiming to be in-line with Capcom’s own remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, the Code Veronica remake features upgraded visuals and a third-person camera, among other improvements. It’s been in development since 2019 and will be released for free at some point in 2022 as three separate chapters. It’s not yet clear if those chapters will be released separately or together. The remake is also adding new animations, the dodge mechanic from the Resident Evil 3 remake, a fire and rain reaction system, and redesigned lighting....

When Chaos Theory was rolled out, the team made changes to the particle FX count for Legends that obscure the battlefield with smoke, making it easier for players to see through - and, perhaps more importantly, shoot - their enemies. It’s a big issue for Bangalore, Caustic, and Gibraltar in particular, as these characters rely on the cover of smoke to support their teammates. “We’re investigating what happened here,” acknowledged lead game designer, Daniel Klein, responding to questions on the game’s official subreddit page (thanks, Dexerto)....

During the pre-show of The Game Awards, the long-rumoured PC version of the PS5 exclusive was officially revealed. There’s no release date yet though, but it’s coming in early 2023. Returnal won Best Action Game at last year’s Game Awards and, earlier this year, won big at the BAFTAs....

Riders Republic, if you’re unfamiliar, takes the open-world winter sports action of Steep and expands it out to feature a broader range of activities, encompassing skiing, snowboarding, biking, and wing suits (of the vanilla and jet-powered varieties) in both solo and competitive play - which, in the latter case, includes large-scale competitions for upward of 50 players. All this unfolds on a map stitched together from seven iconic US national parks: Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Grand Teton, Mammoth Mountain, Sequoia Park, Yosemite Valley, and Zion....

This showcase will be hosted by actress Mica Burton, with publisher Deep Silver and developer Volitio promising a stream full of interviews and inside info. In addition to this, fans will also get a first look at a new trailer, which will focus on the reboot’s customisation options - something the Saints Row team has said will cover “all aspects of player choice in the game”. By all aspects, they really do seem to mean all aspects....

His colleague, Ryan King, broke the news on Twitter earlier today, and linked to a crowdfund campaign that confirmed Ayers had died yesterday, 23rd September, “after a short illness”. “Devastated that we’ve lost @Kaaaaneda who was truly the best of us - warm, funny, brilliant, a huge loss to us all,” King tweeted. “Games industry, please share this link far and wide xxx” Ayers – who had also worked at Konami, Capcom, and Paradox before joining Sega – had been a well-known, well-loved, and deeply respected member of the UK’s game industry....

It has the series “first ever open zone”, Sega said. Sonic Frontiers is developed by Sonic Team Japan, with producer Sachiko Kawamura and director Morio Kishimoto at the helm. While the details of the additional content have yet to be fully disclosed, developer Glowstick Entertainment says all will be revealed soon in an upcoming showcase. An accompanying video teaser (thanks, Gematsu) gives us the familiar crackle of radio static and includes the words “In my restless dreams, I see that town… Silent Hill”, intimating the content might be from the fan-favourite second game in the series, Silent Hill 2....

In a post on Reddit, Japanese player kurobekuro shared some images of their work so far, and although the World’s Edge map is unfinished, it’s still pretty impressive. Finished locations include Harvester, The Train Yard, Mirage Voyage and The Epicenter (complete with massive protruding icicles), and they look remarkably similar to the real deal. Or similar to what Apex Legends will look like on Switch, perhaps. Along with the locations, kurobekuro also reproduced two Apex Legends weapons - the R99 and Flatline, which appear to be fully operational....

“Appreciate all your feedback on Sonic Colors: Ultimate, and the teams are listening and assessing for an upcoming patch,” social media manager for the Sonic brand, Katie Chrzanowski, said in a tweet. “Thank you all for your patience as we dig into this!” Chrzanowski said some of the graphics glitch issues that have emerged on social media were the result of Sonic Colors: Ultimate running on an emulator, which is “unfortunately outside our control”....

Today also brings word of the game’s many editions and pre-order bonuses. Lock down your purchase ahead of launch and you’ll get the Kratos Risen Snow Armor and the Atreus Risen Snow Tunic cosmetics. The game’s standard edition will be available separately for both PS4 and PS5....

Fans had been eyeing the service’s slow roll-out over the course of the past month through different countries around the world - until its final deployment in the UK and mainland Europe today. Ahead of time, Sony had promised “up to 400” PlayStation 4 and PS5 games would be available to both PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tier subscribers - though the initial launch in Asia fell well short. Eurogamer’s list of PS4 and PS5 games available today comes to 429, though Sony caveats that not all of these will be available in all regions....

Steam users noted that the publisher of Sony’s games is now ‘PlayStation PC LLC’, changed from PlayStation Mobile (thanks, VGC). The Corporation Wiki listing shows PlayStation PC LLC was listed back in April. The name change makes sense considering Sony’s investment in PC ports. Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone and Death Stranding are already available on PC, with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy coming in the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection, and God of War on the way....

Sony’s live-action Gran Turismo adaptation was announced earlier this year, and confirmation of an 11th August 2023 release date for the movie followed not long after. Harbour is the first member of the cast to be officially revealed (thanks The Hollywood Reporter) and he’ll be working alongside District 9 and Elyisum director Neill Blomkamp, who’s helming the project. Blomkamp will be directing from a script by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard), which dramatises an apparently true story of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills put him on the path toward becoming a professional racecar driver....

As reported by TheGamer, citing a verified source familiar with the situation, 2nd July will see Sony permanently shut its PSP and PS3 stores, while the Vita store will close on 27th August. By that point, the PSP store will have been active for over 16 years, with the PlayStation 3 and Vita stores making it to 15 and ten years respectively. Today’s report isn’t an altogether unexpected development, of course, given that PlayStation 3, PSP, and Vita games disappeared from the desktop and mobile versions of the PlayStation Store last October following a redesign....

Since its incredibly successful launch, players have complained about connectivity issues plaguing the online multiplayer. Yesterday Nintendo released an update to the game that fixes multiple issues, hopefully providing a more stable play experience. Update 1.5.5 brings important technical changes for modders as well as bug fixes. But hidden in the update notes is a hint at what may come in the future. “A 1.5.6 update is also currently underway,” it reads. “There may be some new content in 1.5.6, too, but it’s not going to be anything huge like 1.5.” Stardew creator ConcernedApe had previously stated he was unsure if new content would be added to the game, especially as he’s focused on future title Haunted Chocolatier....
