We do have some excuses! There are lots of reasons why we might not review something, some of which are quite boring: there’s too much in the schedule, it stealth-launched at the wrong time, we got code a bit too late and the next thing - and a dozen more next things after that - are already on top of us. Sometimes, this year especially, there are bigger priorities: people need time off work and a proper work-life balance, and that comes before hitting an arbitrary embargo....

None of these things should be apologised for - or even, as is probably the case, gently explained away. Timemelters, formerly called Wicca, is so exciting precisely because it’s overwhelming - it gives you so much to think about! And it’s so exciting because it’s hard, not for the sake of being hard, but to push you to embrace all of its systems, to plan and plan and see a plan fail and come up with a new plan....

The announcement came after a controversial week for Twitch and its “hot tub meta”, with some streamers complaining that advertising had been suspended from their channels without warning or explanation. Twitch said it had done this “at the advertisers’ request”. “We recently suspended advertising on some channels that were flagged by the majority of our advertiser base and failed to notify them,” Twitch said in a blog post. “Our creators rely on us, and we should have alerted affected streamers to this change before it happened - it was a mistake not to do so....

In a statement shared with staff on Wednesday, Knight said she was off on a “new adventure that provides exciting growth opportunities for [her] both professionally and personally” in the “creator space”. Knight’s departure from Twitch means the firm has lost its chief content officer, chief operating officer, and Knight’s position in the last year alone (thanks, Bloomberg). Knight stopped short of revealing where this new position would be or if the move came as a result of Twitch’s controversial revenue share changes, and Twitch, as yet, has not confirmed who will be replacing her....

The long-running brand has encompassed more than a dozen games over the years, with various different focuses. The popular Wildlands, released in 2017, took the series open world. 2019 follow-up Breakpoint was less favourably received. Leaks posted to ResetEra and Reddit over the past 24 hours point to this next project being named Ghost Recon Frontline, with a potential shift back to featuring linear levels. We have, finally, been treated to an advanced look at the latest overview trailer, however, and that gives us just a little bit more of an idea as to what this game is really all about. Clarity Boost is currently being tested using Microsoft Edge Canary - an insider-focused build of the browser - before a general rollout to all Edge users by next year. “This feature uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream,” Xbox program manager Milena Gonzalez said in a blog post, showcasing a side-by-side comparison image to demonstrate the difference: When playing via Microsoft Edge Canary, an option to “Enable Clarity Boost” will be available from the more actions (…) menu when playing any game....

Microsoft says it’s publishing its inaugural Digital Transparency Report as part of its “long-standing commitment to online safety”, with the aim being to release an updated report every six months so it can address key learnings and do more to “help people understand how to play a positive role in the Xbox community.” Much of the document is spent reiterating the various tools and processes Microsoft and Xbox players have at their disposal to ensure users remain safe and community guidelines are adhered to, ranging from parental controls to reporting....
