AppLovin announced it was backing off in a statement last night (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), saying it had instead decided to remain on “its path as the independent market leader”. Unity rejected AppLovin’s bid within a week of it being made, and stated at the time it was “not in the best interests of Unity shareholders”. Unity, which works on one of the world’s most popular game engines, will instead continue its plans to merge with IronSource, an Israeli company focused on app monetisation....

The video below, which goes into granular detail of the fans’ exhaustive efforts, was praised by Valhalla narrative director Darby McDevitt after it went live last night. The Isu language, used by Assassin’s Creed’s infamous precursor race, can be found in a few spoilery places within Valhalla. This is all super interesting, I think. Gotham Knights is already a Batman game not made by Rocksteady, and now it doesn’t have the main character either - as far as we’ve been told. I’m intrigued to see the results, but the whole discussion has also made me think about the first Batman game in this series, Arkham Asylum, and how you definitely play as Batman in that - except when it comes to my very favourite moment in the game, which is also the point at which the relationship between player and onscreen avatar becomes a little more complicated....

Following a rocky launch for the game, DICE is busy addressing feedback from players and implementing extensive fixes. An update is due in early March, which will include improvements to scoreboards, but subsequent necessary updates have forced Season One to be moved from its original March release. Those updates include work on: Voice communication (VOIP) and player profile A tighter squad loop, including a refined ping system Feedback-based improvements to gunplay Improved reward loop Expanded tools, modes, and tweaks to player experience gains in Battlefield Portal...

Writing today in the game’s extensive community charter, DICE said its system to flag players would be faster than in previous Battlefield titles, and can now be completed in-game. DICE said it had also heard feedback it was unclear if past player reports had ever resulted in action. Now, you’ll be told in-game your report has been received and later contacted by email if and when action is taken. “In Battlefield 2042 our first approach to ensuring Fair Play is that we’ll use Easy-Anti Cheat (EAC) as our anti-cheat tool of choice,” DICE wrote, detailing another line of defense....

The game was originally set for release today, but this news has been tweeted out by Nintendo UK and its European counterparts. “We are now aiming to release the physical edition of Bayonetta in the first half of October, exclusively on My Nintendo Store,” it reads. “Please stay tuned for more info. Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition released on 23rd June, and received a negative reaction from critics and fans alike. The controversy didn’t end there, with many also unhappy about the delisting of the fan-made ScummVM version of the original game on GOG. The ScummVM version, seen as vastly superior to Nightdive’s remaster, was subsequently reinstated a week later, and was also then packaged with the Enhanced Edition on Steam. Now, Nightdive Studio director of business development Larry Kuperman and lead producer on Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition Dimitris Giannakis have discussed the troubled development of the project with PCGamesN....

We won’t be posting any spoilers here so if you want to stay spoiler-free before the game’s official release, be wary when searching for Splatoon 3 on YouTube or social media. Splatoon 3 will release on 9th September, but leaks were being posted online almost a week before that date. It seems that the leaks come from at least one person who has managed to get their hands on an early copy....

However, there was no live gameplay demo and no release dates offered for any part of the controversial, long-in development game. And Squadron 42, the story-based game set to star Hollywood actors, was a no-show. CitizenCon kicked off with a brief message from CIG founder and CEO Chris Roberts, who talked about the challenge of shifting some 720 people to working from home as a result of the pandemic. Despite this, Roberts said, 2020 and 2021 have been strong for the game, with the number of daily players on average two to three times higher than at this point in 2019....
