Reports of Joy-Con controls drifting or behaving erratically after a period of time are nothing new, and while the company still faces a class-action lawsuit over the issue, Nintendo’s president has apologised for the situation. Now, in a developer interview timed alongside today’s launch Nintendo Switch OLED, Nintendo has addressed the issue again and said it has made improvements - but that some wear and tear is unavoidable. “Joy-Con controllers have lots of different features, so we’ve been continuing to make improvements that may not always be visible,” said Toru Yamashita, deputy general manager of Nintendo’s technology development department....

A number of other older Nintendo Switch games have simultaneously been updated, including Super Mario Maker 2 and Splatoon 2. And the same mysterious update has also been added to Switch smash hit Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which Nintendo abandoned a year ago, after 18 months of patchy post-launch support. “Several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience,” Nintendo has stated, in descriptions for each game update. So, what’s behind these updates?...

As reported by Nikkei, Nintendo had planned to produce 30 million units by March next year, but will only be able to hit 24 million. Nintendo had aimed to increase production for its new OLED model, but with high demand for the console and component shortages this hasn’t been possible. “We are assessing their impact on our production,” a Nintendo spokesperson said, acknowledging the chip shortages. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa had previously admitted the company was unable to produce as many consoles as demand required, with uncertainty over future production....

Unveiled by Nvidia boss Jensen Huang on September 20th, the RTX 4000 line of graphics hardware is based on the new Ada Lovelace architecture, fabricated on TSMC’s 4nm process. The flagship GPU - the GeForce RTX 4090 - released a couple of days ago and was lauded for its massive generational leap over the existing RTX 3000 flagships, RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti. However, it’s fair to say that the same level of acclaim and anticipation was not bestowed upon the RTX 4080, announced in two very different flavours....

It’s certainly a bigger, bolder game than anything Roll7’s attempted before, and the most obvious first point of order is how it brings the series into lavish 3D, and into a fully-realised, fuzzy-edged Adventure Time-esque world of pastel colours and wholesome character. The game is due to come to Nintendo’s console on 1st September, following its stint in early access on PC (via Epic) and Xbox. “We’ve been working on Ooblets… for the past SIX years and it’s finally reaching 1.0,” the developer tweeted earlier this week, before unveiling the game’s Switch debut. Also coming to the service are WRC 10 FIA World Rally Championship, Journey to the Savage Planet and Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood. These games will all be available on the service from tomorrow (5th April). In Outer Wilds, players will enter an open world mystery about a solar system trapped in an endless time loop. Eurogamer gave Outer Wilds a recommended badge on its release, with Edwin calling it a “mesmerising adventure....

In addition, Overwatch 2’s character roster has had to be downsized a tad to allow Blizzard to “iron out a few bugs”. Unfortunately for the developer, however, this has created a new bug of its own, resulting in even more characters becoming inaccessible for some Overwatch 2 players. On the official customer support Twitter account, Blizzard addressed the DDoS attack faced by Battle.net yesterday. This has reportedly now all been dealt with, however it managed to cause widespread issues for players of both Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare....

A new blog on Steam states the team at Recreate Games “can feel the anticipation and anxiety of our players” and will be gradually releasing more information on the game’s progress. The game received an open demo in October 2020 but little has been heard since. However, the game is “still in development and the target release date is hopefully within 2022, with possible delays due to quality and compliance approvals....

As its name suggests, PC Building Simulator 2 will allow you to… build a PC. Another one, anyway. Or, as the official tweet states: “Dream it. Build it. Benchmark it.” Developed by Spiral House, it will be published by Epic exclusively for PC. It’s the latest shot fired in an increasingly public back and forth between the two companies as governmental scrutiny of Microsoft’s proposed $69bn USD acquisition of Activision Blizzard grows, particularly in relation to its impact on other gaming platforms. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, for instance, recently said the deal would give rise to the “realistic prospect of a substantial lessening of competition in gaming consoles, multi-game subscription services, and cloud gaming services....

The studio is best known for its work on Singstar and Blood and Truth, which utilised the microphone and VR peripherals respectively. The news comes courtesy of a tweet from the studio linking to new job opportunities presumably relating to the new project. “New starters will join at the perfect time to get involved in shaping our plans for a project we are exceptionally excited about!” reads the tweet. No further details on the game itself are given, so it’s unclear exactly what it will be....

When the Renegade Pokémon does make an appearance in Pokémon Go it will take one of two formes, either the wyvern Origin Forme or the winged Altered Forme. Thankfully, Giratina’s weaknesses and counters remain the same no matter which forme it takes.
