As to what’s in store this time around (beyond the inevitable fresh 100 levels of seasonal progression and rewards), Rare remains in a teasing mood, albeit dropping some major hints in Season 4’s newly revealed announcement trailer. It appears the malevolant sirens - which got a long-awaited and wonderfully orchestrated introduction during Season 3’s A Pirate’s Life campaign - are poised to play an even bigger role. Last season’s spectacular Sunken Pearl Tall Tale took pirates down into the depths to visit the gorgeous coral-hewn home of the Siren Queen, and it seems we’ll be visiting more areas of the sirens’ long-lost kingdom once Season 4 gets underway....

The collection includes some incredible games, including Celeste, If Found, Arcade Spirits, Sword of the Necromancer, Tell Me Why, Paradise Killer and Boyfriend Dungeon, as well as some lesser known indies. Shenmue 3 is, of course, the long, long, long-awaited third instalment in developer Yu Suzuki’s classic action-adventure series, which finally arrived in 2019 following a gap of 18 years between it and its predecessor. Picking up where Shenmue 2 left off, part 3 sees protagonist Ryo Hazuki resume his quest for vengeance after the murder of his father in the original, delivering a new chapter that Eurogamer’s Martin Robison called both “archaic and arcane” and “a worthy successor to what many consider an all-time great” in his review....

They’re incredibly small and incredibly bad quality, which means they’re impossible to confirm either way with any credible veracity, but the poster shared the images with the legend: “First leaked image of Silent Hill 2 Remake supposedly developed by Bloober Team”. As for what they show? We seem to be looking at a third-person POV with the camera behind the left shoulder rather than a fixed angle. The third is the most compelling - it appears to be a bubble head nurse and reminds me of Brookhaven Hospital, when the nurse jumps out from near the elevator - whereas the top is reminiscent of the leaked concept art images we saw a few months back....

As detailed in newly updated five-year release roadmap for investors, CI’s new live-service game, codenamed Project Scorpio, is being developed by its internal Underdog Studio - which makes the Sniper: Ghost Warrior games - with an anticipated launch of 2024/5. CI says the title will be supported through in-game purchase mechanics, events, and esports post-launch. In addition to Project Scorpio, Underdog is collaborating with a currently unnamed partner studio to develop the next entry in the Sniper: Ghost Warrior series....

This is Solar Ash, and Solar Ash is a skating game, really. It’s a cosmic skating game with spectacular rinks and it absolutely does not want you to stop moving even for a second. You ghost frictionlessly over the landscape here, a thing of will and direction only. The earth curves away in strange, promising pathways. Connection is forgiving - even grind rails have a sort of mag-lev dreaminess to them, so you can hop on and off without much in the way of fiddliness....

Sony’s existing marketing deal with Call of Duty sees the PlayStation branding used in conjunction with advertising, while players on Sony platforms get early access to in-game content. In Microsoft’s response, in a footnote to the main text, the Xbox maker references Phil Spencer’s January 20th 2022 tweet which stated that Microsoft’s intent was “to honour all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard”....

Google’s announcement yesterday that it would shutter Stadia completely in January 2023 came as a complete surprise, all have said - even those with upcoming projects set to arrive in November. What will happen to those games is now unclear, as Google has already moved to close the Stadia store - making new releases unsellable. “OH BOY VERY HAPPY TO SEE MONTHS OF MY WORK GOING IN THE BIN AGAIN,” indie developer Simon Roth, creator of Maia, wrote on Twitter last night....

The latest from Valve states production on the handheld PC has “outperformed [the company’s] estimates”, a result of which has meant that some with “Q4” reservations may well get their deck sooner than expected. Valve’s Lawrence Yang tweeted: “Hi all, a few of you may have received an order email for your ‘Q4 window’ Steam Deck reservation today. Previously, Capcom had confirmed 11 of the characters set to be playable in Street Fighter 6, offering a mix of familiar faces and brand-new additions. The iconic likes of Chun-Li, Ryu, Ken, Blanka, Dhalsim, E. Honda, and Guile were all confirmed to be in, alongside more recent additions Juri and Luke. Teamfight Tactics is a free-to-play strategy game within League of Legends with quite the learning curve, combining unit, item, and financial management. But even with the steep learning curve for new players, there’s an addicting quality to Teamfight Tactics. Every game presents different hurdles to overcome, and demands you adapt to face increasing challenges with limited time and resources. There’s kind of a running joke that the ‘chess’ part of the Auto Chess genre is a non-relevant descriptor, but the importance of planning ahead in chess, of predicting what your opponent will do, is a constant in Teamfight Tactics....

Players can earn Territe, a currency which can then be exchanged for “Territe Tokens”, in game from monster battling, completing various daily missions and other grinding mechanics. Territe Tokens can be exchanged, sold and purchased on publisher Netmarble’s own MARBLEX platform, and transferred for other types of planet-burning crytocurrency via external crypto exchanges....

I recently went hands on with a demo of this lengthily-titled remaster - Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion - and I’m excited to dive in properly on its release this December. Questions remain over the impact Crisis Core will have on the forthcoming second part (Rebirth) of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, but what’s immediately clear from its remaster is how it’s now clearly positioned as a side story to Remake....
